Originally called “Contrology,” Joseph Pilates developed the method now known as Pilates to focus on breath and alignment of the spine, while strengthening the deep torso and abdominal muscles.
Pilates both stretches and strengthens the body, and requires focus and concentration – helping to develop a deep mind/body connection. Achieving relaxation and stamina at the same time may seem counterintuitive, but both are benefits of a regular Pilates practice.
